The Registry Checklist
The essentials, minus the marketing. Print it and take it shopping, or hand it to the grandparents.
Original guidance checked July 2026 · See the linked sources for updates
The real essentials

- ☐ Bottles + brush (even if breastfeeding) · formula if using
- ☐ Nursing pillow if breastfeeding (feeding only — never for sleep)
- ☐ Diapers in two sizes, wipes, changing pad, barrier cream

- ☐ Swaddles or sleep sacks (no weighted anything)
- ☐ Stroller and/or carrier
- ☐ Nasal bulb, saline drops, baby nail file
- ☐ White noise machine (7 feet from crib, volume low) — optional but beloved

Secondhand sorting
Fine used: clothes, books, most toys, verified un-recalled gear. Never used: anything in the list above, cribs made before June 2011, mattresses from before fall 2022. The 30-second check: search the model at cpsc.gov/recalls and SaferProducts.gov; car seats via NHTSA's SaferCar app. source
