A little look inside.

Bear’s birthday cake is taller than Goose—and it is racing through the market on a trolley. Goose and her friends need to bring the celebration home with the cake still in one piece.

Read the pictures and words together, or let the cast tell the story while you turn the pages.

Shall we turn the page?

Goose checks a folded map while Raccoon holds the trolley carrying a tall birthday cake decorated with pink roses.
For Bear’s birthday, Raccoon had baked a cake taller than Goose. It stood on a wide tray, inside the rails of a low, four-wheeled trolley. Bear’s garden was up the little lane beyond the market. “I’ll bring it round. You fetch the candles.”
Goose turns to open gate after tying three balloons. Foreground one string catches brake lever and lifts it; trolley just begins rolling as Raccoon looks back.
Raccoon checked the brake. Goose tied three balloons to the handle. As she turned to open the gate, a balloon string caught the brake lever. Click. The trolley began to roll. “Just a moment!” The cake did not wait.
